Stories have been part of human experience from the earliest days. Stories define how we think, the way we feel and how we understand our world. Interactive Storytelling holds the promise of moving beyond the linearity of conventional media by enabling users to participate in the decisions or actions that shape the narrative. The fast development of tools and interactive platforms opens new creative possibilities for content creation. The aim of the first VocINet workshop on how to teach interactive storytelling was to provide a detailed overview on best practice in teaching and producing interactive narrative projects in two and half days.

The workshop was attended by 25 participants from 15 different countries with different backgrounds and skills. The different views on how to teach interactive storytelling and how interactive storytelling could be used for learning made the discussions very interesting.

The workshop provided a broad overview on the existing training programs for teaching interactive storytelling, various possibilities for tools that could be used for creating non-linear stories, theories on how to develop a non-linear story and different story structures and case studies of the best interactive storytelling projects.

During the hands on workshop participants developed and presented 4 different curricula for teaching interactive storytelling. The first VocINet workshop shows that there is a big need for sharing information and experiences on how to teach interactive storytelling and how interactive storytelling could be used for learning.
The aim of VocINet is to provide such a platform for sharing experiences by publishing on information on training programs, trainers and tools and organising professionals training workshops.

There were many interesting discussion on how to teach interactive storytelling, how to bring together the technology aspects and the creative ideas, how to use e-learning tools could, how to teach interactive storytelling for BA courses, how to develop courses for using interactive storytelling in museums, how interactive storytelling could be used for learning, how to collaborate to develop didactic materials, how to share information and experiences with teaching interactive storytelling and how to finance trainings in interactive storytelling.
